Conference on Arts & Culture Education and Social Cohesion: Kulturelle Bildung und gesellschaftlicher Zusammenhalt

In May 2018, the German arts education knowledge platform Wissensplattform Kulturelle Bildung Online helds its annual meeting in Remscheid. Registration for the two-day conference on arts & cultural education and social cohesion is still possible.

The annual symposium of the German knowledge platform on arts education „Wissensplattform Kulturelle Bildung Online“, a joint project by Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung (German Federation for Cultural Youth Education), the Federal Academy for Cultural Education Bundesakademie Wolfenbüttel, Akademie der Kulturellen Bildung des Bundes und des Landes NRW e.V. (Academy of Arts Education of the German Government and State of North Rhine-Westphalia) and the University of Hildesheim addresses current questions on arts and culture education as a means of social cohesion. It asks whether an individualistic and emancipatory idea of arts education can be reconciled with the objective of fostering solidarity and shared cultural identities and discusses challenges of arts and cultural education with a focus on cultural diversity and digital shift.

Speakers and panelists will include the social scientist Thomas Gensicke, whose research mainly focuses on (youth) culture, values and related social transformations and Christian Höppner, President of the German Cultural Council, co-founder of the Cultural Integration Initiative.
